About The NL Seabed Atlas

The School of Ocean Technology of the Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland maintains and publishes the NL Seabed Atlas as an online gateway to existing data and information about the seabed habitat for Newfoundland and Labrador waters.

All data and information were compiled from existing web services or data sources, converted where necessary into digital format, georeferenced and published in a web map application. When available, the Atlas uses Web Services (e.g. WMS) based upon accepted Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards. For example, the "Multibeam" and "Detailed Base Map" layers are provided from Government of Canada WMS's. Our web map delivery approach provides information that is readily accessible to all and forms a foundation to support and guide further work.
